June Strandberg
Just Beginnings Flowers founder, June Strandberg’s love of flowers has lasted 56years dating back to her early teens. It all started when she began working for her uncle’s flower business, working in the shop and greenhouse after school. As the years passed she became an award winning Canadian Florist.
Moving to Vancouver, she worked for two major flower wholesalers, and would travel across Canada teaching floral design to their clients. In 1989 she decided to devote herself to teaching floral design to people to whom it would make the most positive impact- women in prison. She created and introduced a floral program to the provincial government.
Implemented in the Burnaby Correctional Center for Women Maximum Security Prison, "Beginnings" opened on April 1st 1990. For the next 13 years June and her “Beginnings” flower program changed the lives of thousands of women BC prison system, as well as servicing some 150 brides a year!
June started Just Beginnings Flowers in Surrey BC to continue her legacy of positive social change through flowers and floral training.
Casey Morley
Casey is a self-motivated professional floral designer and instructor offering eighteen years of experience with particular strength in wedding flower design, communications, and in training beginners. She has a strong record of contributing to a positive team setting while exercising sound judgment in prioritizing challenging situations. Casey believes the achievement of goals and facilitating a vibrant training department is key to success.
From 1987 to 1989 Casey was the design consultant for a floral wholesale importer as well as facilitating account development and ensuring positive client relations; designing for local flower shops, interior decorators and large furniture stores; and assisting sales representatives.
From 1989 to 1992 Casey was the head designer and flower shop manager for a thriving floral outlet in Vancouver. In this position she designed for custom interior landscaping for residential, corporate trade shows and the film industry; supervised a staff of eleven employees and store operations; performed the daily purchasing and inventory control; as well as managing the nursery and store.
In 1992 Casey became a supervisor and floral instructor at the Beginnings program at the Burnaby Correctional Centre for Women. In this position she supervised up to twelve participants within the program; instructed and trained from beginner to intermediate levels of floral design as well as theory and practical instruction; regularly conducted performance and evaluation reports; assisted in development of horticulture seasonal planning and marketable product; coordinated several annual open house events within the program; designed custom floral work for weddings, corporate functions, funerals, and other special occasions; and conducted demonstrational and instructional displays and presentations for retail floral shops.
Casey’s professional achievements include being a guest designer for F.A. Bernard’s Floral Wholesales Design Show; committee board member for the Northwest Floral Association; and coordinator of the People’s Choice Awards by Flowers Canada.
